RASUWA, NEPAL / RankWire.AI / – UAE Search and Rescue Team is conducting field operations in Nepal’s Rasuwa district following heavy flooding that impacted the area. The team supports local authorities by investigating affected communities and challenging terrains, utilizing drones, aerial imagery, and 3D mapping technology to assess the disaster zones. These tools provide detailed visuals of areas where floodwaters have compromised roads, structures, and other infrastructure.

Coordination between UAE personnel and local officials is ongoing to prioritize search efforts throughout the district. Hamoud Al Afari, director of UAE relief operations, emphasized that the advanced technical gear is crucial in locating missing persons. The operation integrates ground searches with aerial reconnaissance in regions where damaged roads hinder access. Its main objectives include pinpointing disaster zones, creating detailed maps of routes, and aiding rescue teams operating within the flood-affected areas.

The UAE’s search and rescue team arrived in Nepal aboard their third relief flight on September 4, which also transported 20 tonnes of humanitarian aid for communities impacted by the floods. This shipment brings the total aid delivered by the UAE to 148 tonnes. Dubai Police personnel participated in the deployment equipped with disaster response tools. Additionally, the UAE Aid Agency is managing a $10 million aid package that encompasses food, shelter materials, generators, and other critical supplies.

    Search efforts expand across Rasuwa

By the evening of September 6, Rasuwa authorities reported executing 1,356 rescue operations. Among those rescued were 1,270 Nepali nationals and 86 foreigners. Helicopter evacuations transported 1,414 flood-affected individuals and stranded pilgrims to Nuwakot and Kathmandu. Officials continue updating lists of individuals who remain uncontacted, including residents, government staff, security personnel, bank employees, and international visitors present during the flooding.

In addition, district officials confirmed the recovery of 169 bodies as search efforts persisted. Six of these victims had been identified by September 6. Nepal Police have appealed to relatives of missing Nepali and foreign nationals to provide DNA samples for identification. When possible, samples from immediate family members are preferred. Families outside Nepal can submit DNA data electronically for matching with recovered remains. As new information emerges from field teams, authorities are revising missing-person lists and identification records accordingly.

Flood response involves both rescue and aid distribution

Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs reported that the Bhote Koshi River flood affected Rasuwa around 8:40 a.m. on August 26. Floodwaters also caused destruction in riverbank regions of Nuwakot, Dhading, and Gorkha districts. The government initiated search, rescue, and emergency relief actions following the disaster. Damage assessments revealed impacts on roads, bridges, residential areas, schools, banks, and hydropower installations. Relief efforts have included distribution of supplies while officials evaluate damage in the affected communities.

The UAE’s deployment remains primarily focused on conducting searches, aerial surveys, and creating detailed maps to facilitate ground operations. Relief teams are also providing food parcels and essential supplies to communities impacted by the flooding and landslides. As rescue, recovery, and identification efforts continue across Rasuwa, local authorities are maintaining updated records of missing individuals. The figures as of September 7 are subject to revision as field teams keep reporting new findings from search sites.
