SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / –  Samsung Electronics introduced its eighth-generation foldable lineup during the global Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London, unveiling three devices: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean tech company showcased refreshed hardware designs, enhanced camera systems, and integrated AI platforms across all models. This announcement marks the first time the Ultra designation appears in Samsung’s foldable series, aimed at enterprise users, with a slim profile of just 4.1 millimeters when unfolded and a weight of 215 grams.

The standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a newly designed form factor, weighing only 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable smartphone in Samsung’s product lineup. It boasts a 10:16 aspect ratio on the cover screen and a 4:3 ratio on the main display, allowing seamless adaptation for browsing, reading, and video content. Both displays utilize Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits under Vision Booster. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and equipped with a 4,800 mAh battery, the device delivers high performance and efficiency.

To enhance durability while maintaining a slim profile, Samsung developed its proprietary Flex Titanium display structure for its premium foldables. This architecture combines a titanium-alloy film with an underlying titanium support plate to absorb impacts, distribute mechanical tension, and minimize visible creasing over numerous folds. Adjustments were made to hinge balance, magnetic force, and display tension to ensure smoother opening actions. The device also features a low-reflection finish designed to maintain vibrant colors even in bright outdoor lighting conditions.

Enhanced Hardware and Functionality for Productivity

The flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra offers an expanded 8.0-inch QXGA+ main display alongside a 6.5-inch cover screen. Built for multitasking and media production, the Ultra model features a 200-megapixel main camera with High Dynamic Range, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto module. It supports 8K video recording with the APV video codec and includes Cine LUT color management tools for professional-level video editing workflows.

Internal hardware improvements include a larger graphite cooling system designed to manage heat during intensive tasks. The device is powered by a 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery with a 45W dual-path fast-charging system, ensuring efficient power delivery across both cells. Users can choose configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, all running on One UI 9 based on Android 17.

    Software Features and Global Launch

Alongside the larger foldables, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip8, a clamshell device measuring 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighing 180 grams. It features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 6.9-inch main screen, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,300 mAh battery. All three foldable models include intelligent software features powered by artificial intelligence tools developed with Google, such as Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge, which help automate workflows, summarize complex documents, and improve app navigation.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 series will start immediately after the Unpacked event, with availability in retail stores beginning on August 7, 2026. The starting price is $1,899.99 for the base Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Ultra and Z Flip8 models will feature updated hardware prices across various regional markets. This launch underscores Samsung’s strategy to accelerate foldable device adoption across premium consumer and enterprise segments worldwide.
