BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – In Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The meetings focused on enhancing bilateral relations, fostering economic collaboration, and development initiatives. Additionally, they examined regional and international issues, emphasizing diplomacy, peace, and global security. This engagement coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

During their dialogue, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul explored avenues to reinforce the strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany across diverse sectors. The conversation prominently featured economic cooperation and development efforts. They also exchanged perspectives on international challenges and diplomatic approaches to crisis resolution. Sheikh Abdullah underscored the strong ties and history of collaboration between the two nations spanning political and economic spheres.

This meeting in Berlin took place amid the expansion of formal frameworks governing UAE-Germany relations. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where they announced a Strategic Dialogue encompassing security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. The dialogue also extends to digitalization, transportation, environmental initiatives, culture, and education, broadening the scope of ongoing government engagement.

Broader economic cooperation strengthens the strategic partnership

Both governments endorsed initiatives like the German-UAE Investment Council, aimed at deepening cooperation between public agencies and private firms in both countries. Officials welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. According to the joint government declaration, the visit led to 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros.

Economic negotiations also covered sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint statement outlined collaborations in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans to develop advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Germany and the UAE identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as additional avenues for bilateral projects, alongside investment and industrial cooperation.

Focus on diplomacy and regional stability remains integral

Regional and global developments were also on the agenda during Sheikh Abdullah’s meeting with Wadephul. Discussions addressed international efforts to promote peace, stability, and security. The ministers emphasized diplomacy and peaceful crisis resolution, aligning with Germany’s focus on Middle East peace and stability, which was part of the broader diplomatic agenda during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the talks between the foreign ministers. The discussions linked foreign policy priorities with the economic and developmental themes highlighted during the state visit. They also built on prior UAE-Germany consultations in Berlin in 2026. These latest meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, maintaining economic cooperation, investment, and diplomatic engagement as core components of the relationship.
