EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – The five-year wheat supply deal between the UAE and Egypt has officially been activated, with a total value reaching up to US$500 million. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will deliver imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities under this arrangement. The funding for these purchases is facilitated through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The agreement formalizes a framework set in 2023 and establishes the terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.

The signing took place on Aug. 26, 2026, at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also serves as GASC chairman, attended the signing ceremony. Co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, was present as well. Officials did not disclose the volume of wheat covered by this agreement, nor did they specify shipment schedules, origins, annual purchase goals, or the pricing methods for individual transactions.
This new arrangement builds upon a financing scheme announced by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving credit for wheat and other essential commodities. This facility was designed for annual renewal over five years, potentially allowing up to US$500 million in financing. The original framework involved Egypt’s ministries of finance and international cooperation along with GASC. The current deal clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat through the pre-existing financing structure.
Five-year plan advances into wheat supply operations
ADEX acts as the export-financing branch of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases linked to UAE exporters. The 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other essential commodities supplied by Al Dahra, utilizing a revolving financing structure that renews annually throughout the five-year period. This new agreement does not establish a fresh US$500 million credit line but instead provides the commercial framework enabling GASC to buy imported wheat from Al Dahra using existing ADEX financing.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained farming operations in Egypt, including locations in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating around 28,000 hectares within Egypt. Over the previous three years, Al Dahra supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. During that period, approximately 85% of the wheat produced on their Egyptian farms was sold domestically. Today, Al Dahra manages an agricultural platform serving over 40 markets worldwide.
Imported wheat procurement remains linked to ADEX funding
The agreement signed at El Alamein pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC, while Al Dahra also produces crops within Egypt. In 2023, Al Dahra characterized itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn. Thus, the new pact involves a distinct import route supported by UAE export financing. GASC continues to act as Egypt’s official procurement authority under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has provided specific figures on total wheat tonnage for deliveries under the five-year deal.
The program’s total value remains capped at up to US$500 million over five years, based on the framework established in 2023. No annual shipment schedules or list of supplying countries have been publicly released by either party. Additionally, the pricing formula for individual purchases has not been disclosed. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the confirmed agreement links Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the existing ADEX financing program, formalizing the operational phase of the five-year arrangement.
